Hi all,

Iv got a job to do installing a couple down lights, i userly use jbs to do the connections etc but iv just come across these lighting wago connectors.

What are these wago connectors like? And is it worth using these for downlight installation?

Regards

John

line products ( forum sponsor ) do a cracking bit of kit just for downlights. connectors similar to wagos with a 2" diameter "torpedo" enclosure. click on their sponsor link . ( i have no connection with line products and don't receive commission. an occasional freebie is always welcome though . :vanish: )

bring up the sponsor panel by using the double arrow top right. line is 3rd one down. or google line products.

less than 1/4 of the time. 1/10th if you drop a screw out the JB. the connectors have 2 holes for your T/E ( if you're looping through) and a cage clamp for the flex outgoing to the fitting. approx 3 mins to strip cables, connect and fit.

if you have not used wago type connectors before I would get both the line and wago enclosures and have a play (It doesn't matter which make of actual connector you get as they are basically the same).
Wago enclosures are (some say) slighty neater looking but line are (some say) slightly easier to use and more flexible. Wagos haven't a neat button doobry for mounting on joists, with line you can use a tie wrap screw mount.

I can't say one is definitely better than the other but I use line enclosures ;)
Either one is miles better than a screw terminal box.........

Make sure they are not push in's though, although brilliant normally, they won't take a flex, only solid cores, you need lever types which are suited to flexible cables, great kit though.

I have fitted quite a lot of downlights this last month, probably in the region of 100+ and have 7 more tomorrow... And everyone of them is done with a deep Wago junction box and 3x three way Wago lever connectors, nice and quick and easy. This is one install I finished off last week, it was an apartment with quite a few in. I like the Wwgo's as they are quick, neat and tidy and I feel I can rely on them.

I said to the customer, don't fill the void with fibreglass as you want loads of downlights as we will not get on otherwise.... Anyway, I put all my wires up there, he says no problem ive got to double board it and plaster next, so a week later, I come back to put all the holes in, and its rammed full to the brim with fibreglass, so I had to literally pull, i think 8 bin liners full of mineral wall out of the downlight holes and space it as much as possible where I could. There were 35 lights in this apartment, looked nice, with 20SMD GU10 bulbs and all fittings from Browse Energy Saving LED Bulbs & LED Lighting by Light Rabbit

Oh the other thing, he tucked all the wires up behind the fibreglass to stop them getting in the way when he board it, so finding the wires was verging on impossible!
