I would be really grateful for some advice please. I have solar panels with an Elster A100C meter. It is flashing 00000 on the screen. The red light is also flashing. We have obviously turned off and on the main AC isolator and the fuses are ok.
It is out of warranty and the installer has been and says he’ll come back and fit a new meter.
My question is how likely is that to fix it? Is the meter likely to be the problem. He wasn’t very reassuring as he only looked at the meter and left.
Also we last submitted a meter reading in September and presume the panels have been producing energy all through and we are on a FIT. I am guessing we have lost all that money now (particularly once the meter is changed)?
Thank you for any advice! Just wanted to know if the meter is a reasonable first step with no other checks first before spending that money.

On page 9 para 11.1 it says that all data is retained in 'non-volatile' memory for the life of the meter which makes me believe your generation figures have not been lost. Worth a call to your energy supplier to ask how to go about retrieving this data from the old meter so don't let it leave your possession. It sounds to me like the internal battery is flat perhaps because it is not being charged for some reason. Nevertheless, clever electronics is normally 'kept-alive' by another battery or the data is stored in a way that does not rely on power from a battery.
