Hello Everyone,

I am not sure of the etiquette here on the forum, but I would like to start by extending warm greetings to everyone in the house. This forum is very useful for me and I have learnt a lot from it.

I would like to ask a question, its about the list of materials required to wire a 5 bed house. I have the list below, and would like to know if its correct etc.

3/4 double sockets per bedroom, and everywhere will have spot lights apart from the bedrooms. I also plan to use a double electric oven, which is rated at 4,400W and hence a 6mm cable needs to be used. The distance is about 10m from the board to the kitchen. Below are the oven specification.

Energy efficiency class (2010/30/EC) - cavity 2 : A Energy consumption per cycle forced air convection - cavity 2 (2010/30/EC) : 0.80 Energy efficiency index (2010/30/EC) : 112.9 Energy efficiency index cavity 2 (2010/30/EC) : 94.1 Electrical connection rating (W) : 4400 Current (A) : 20 Voltage (V) : 240 Frequency (Hz) : 50

3 core/E is generally only used for 2/3 way light switching and maybe timer fans ( in a domestic situation ). as for the conduit you mention, it's more usual to use T/E, sometimes with capping, rather than conduit, which requires much deeper chasing and more time.

methinks it's time to get a second quote for the job. apart from concerns about the materials specified, it's common sense anyway. ask any watchdog viewer.

You
From my notes
Its a conduit system buried into the walls using a channel or something like that.

I thought the 3 core and earth is used for multiple switches ? Not sure.

Also, the 3 core cables isn't that the one used for double sockets etc ? I feel this is the one that someone previously stated is not enough.
No mate a solid continuous conduit system is what it is solid no breaks. no sheathing, conduit as in round plastic or metallic conduit. The 3 core cable would be used for 2 way and intermediate switching, BUT 1.5mm2 OR 1.00mm2 NOT 2.5mm2 cable.
2.5mm2, 2 core and earth or whatever size larger than that has been calculated would be used for RFCs feeding 13Amp socket outlets, your post before this only confirms your lack of knowledge, get some, decent contractors in to quote for the work, please.

So you are saying 1.5mm 2 core and earth to feed the sockets.
Ahh, this and the 2.5mm cables are the wrong ones then. I will discuss this with him, is there anything else that you feel is worrying ?

I have had a few days like that lately, luckily I can get away from it all, Just having a conversation with the Dog about our combined dinner, as the management are out for the afternoon

Cheers Pete
Owe you a pint !!

to run 50 lots of spot lights
mainly on the ground floor and single pendants in 5 rooms, do you think the quantity is fine ?

Also, what are 2.5mm single core cables used for ? Just wondered why he has it here.
