Hi all, hope you can settle this little difference of opinion.
Got a small job extending a lighting circuit to put extra light in an attic. No RCD at the moment. One view says must put in RCD at least for the lighting circuit we modify but t'other says not needed cos the extension is not buried as its in the loft and that's the bit we are responsible for.
Go on, settle it for us!
Cheers,
Steve

erm...

so are you saying that the cable you have installed is in the loft?

will the light just loop out of one of the upstairs pendants? then to a switch?

I agree with the last part of your post. No need for RCD protection as wiring is to be surface mounted AND you're not adding a new circuit - merely connecting to an existing one.

Tks for the replies. That confirms wot I was reckoning. Actually it's even simpler than Bahco asked - there's already one light in the loft so it's an extension to that one.
