Not sure if this has been posted already but I only just found out about it today and so thought I'd share it here...
Lucky I only have a few that need replacing.

Electrium Ltd a manufacturer and supplier to the Electrical Wholesale Trade of Minature Circuit Breakers covered by the brand names of WYLEX, CRABTREE and VOLEX have advised that they have established a procedure to be followed for return of the effected products.
The reference numbers involved are: WYLEX, NSB06, NSB10 and NSB16. CRABTREE 6M1B06, 6M1B10 and 6M1B16. VOLEX VB06, VB10 and VB16. Full information can be obtained by visiting the Electrium website at MCB Exchange Page. This recall applies to these products only if they were purchased between the 1st April 2009 and the 28th February 2010.

In my opinion all above makes are poor quality and would not use them at all.Spend a bit more for the better brands.

I have never found a problem with them always seam to be of a good quality ,having said that the new crabtree breakers are a very poor quality ,square D are good but the tripping times on the RCBO's RCD are always close to the limits or above ,and the curly lead drives me insane , people seam to love contactum but in all honest i hate them and what with the MCB cove awful

Are we supposed to go back to every job we installed mcb's purchased during the above period and replace??
If so are we going to be reimbursed for the considerable time and effort this will involve?

Can't say I have ever had a problem with waylex stuff. I have a waylex cu myself so waiting to hear back if they come and replace them or if I have to

Adam ring the regester and do it yourself you get paid £75.00 for each unit you replace and paid for the replacement MCB's to

Whats happend is that the are a few MCB's that i quote : there is a small but relitivly seriouse risk of overheating and possible burning , the effected MCB are 6 10 and 16 amp if you ring there help line they will send you out a pack you go and replace all the effected MCB's you get paid £75,00 per installation send them a receipt for the Cost of replacemnet MCB's and and invoice to them and the will pay you .

Electrium on line : The home of quality electrical equipment

Cool, think I will ring them today then. I did you the online form and have heard nothing back. Glad to see I will get paid to replace my own mcb's :p

just ring them they are very helpfull , fair play to them its happend in a very few circumstances ,and just to put out the recall its cost them 35 million plus ,any problems i have had with crabtree / wylex i have phoned the technical and they always follow up the call a few days later so 100% to them

Yes they are they are in the process of sending out the final recall notices we are still finding them , one of the biggest problem they have is the sheds have been selling them with the consumer units how many of these boards have been installed by the DIYer and they have not noticed , i no longer use electrium boards as they said it was a small number well i know of 5 boards that have caught fire all electrium so i cant take the chance

6 and 10 amp RIRA,RTRA,RCRA,RHRA,RGRA,RERA,RARA,SRRA,SSRA 16 AMP RIRA,RTRA,RCRA,RHRA,RGRA,RERA,RARA,SRRA ,

to identify these they are found on the side of the MCB below the current rating B6 / B16 B10 etc and it is the last 4 letters of the date code the other makes that were also on the recall were the sector and newlec ,

Yo nickblake

thanks mate! No haven't got list (used to) so thats saved me the trouble, I'm guessing youve listed the code just for the VOLEX ones. I remember they were different for the WYLEX, CRABTREE, etc.

Thanks man.

no those codes are printed on all the makes wether its crabtree volex wylex sector newlec its just the pacaging thats different etc they use the same coding

Does everybody know that Electrium have now closed the recall scheme?
I wonder if there are any duff MCBs still out there?
A retired electrician I know thinks that he may have some CUs that need to be checked, I told him to contact Electrium.
