I had Scottish Power moving a supply this morning from one building to another so an extension could be built. I had everything ready for them with a Wylex REC2 in the meter box and I'd already run my tails.

Anyway, they turned up, , ran their ducting, stuck the head in, connected up to my isolator, did their tests, said "all good, Ze 0.22" and disappeared.

I finished connecting up the other end, did all the dead tests etc. then it came time to energise.
So I turn on the isolator. Nothing. Suspected 2 pole tester first and dug out the proving unit, but no it was fine. Tested top of isolator, live, tested bottom of isolator, nothing. Checked other switch position in case I'd been a muppet, no, still nothing.
As I was in the middle of nowhere in glorious remote Wales this was quite a problem. I explained the issue to the customer and they offered to go to Toolstation for me to get another one (45 minutes round trip) while I finished off. Happy days.

In the meantime I finished a few other things, and still waiting for the customer I started to look through the bag of rubbish from the DNO which had some interesting unused items e.g. CNE pole connection kit, and then I saw there was a brand new unused Proteus service isolator in their rubbish...!

So I possibly set a new record for summoning the fuse fairy to a cut-out that was less than an hour old, swapped the isolator, and all good. The customer was happy to come back and find the power on, and he can of course return the one he got.

I don't think I've ever known a Wylex product not work out of the box. First time for everything.

A good recovery from yourself. Have fitted many Wylex isolators and have never had an issue. Guess you were just unfortunate on this occasion.
