I am thinking of working for myself, starting of as a man and a van type thing, until hopefully I can build up some sort of profitable business. I have looked on sites such as yell.com and rated people and spoke to their representatives, who seem to promise a fair bit of work for a cost. I was just wondering if anybody else had used these sites or anything similar, and what sort of feedback you have. any other advice is gratfully received.

To much money to lay out if you are starting up give your local small business advisory service a ring they are free and give you all the advise you need from taxation to advertsing and with the other people on your course you can start networking with them for work.

Best of luck

Chris

i`ve tried yell and got some response from customers but from further away than i wanted to travel and had lots of calls from marketing people so a bit of a mixture really. i did get a few calls for quotes some of which turned into jobs and repeat customers whom i gave flyers and cards to so it depends what you`ve got to spend .on balance i would say the response covered the cost of the ad and got me some new customers but i wasn`t kept busy full time off the response so you would probably need to advertise in local classifieds as well and pass your card or flyers around but i find contacts in the trade are a good way to get regular work hope this helps.
