Discuss Yesterday’s callout - a close call in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I think you have done the correct thing. I would assume it is the bad connection at the terminal which has caused this problem. Did you test the cable ? I would assume that once you had removed the damaged part , the cable would test ok?
Many showers , which have been replaced , are running on 6 mill cable , it may not be correct , but it is factual in my experience.
I have been to installs which showers are run from 2.5mm , and of course I have condemned them, but the cable , if truth be told is fine , as in , it still has all its properties in place when tested under 500 volts .

Any problem and you were the last person working on it, and knew it was unsafe. Remember with health and safety you are guilty until you can prove yourself innocent! As a matter of interest I quite often had to replace 60 or even 80 amp hrc main fuses when cooker fault blew 5hem instead of 30 amp rewireable
