i walked a model home yesterday and it had been fitted with can lights that had a typical downlight, but the standard downlight trim would also emit a soft glow around the edge as an option as well. Basically the light switch toggled between those options: Downlight on, dim edge glowing only...
Yes I know what the answer is and you're going to shoot me down in flames... but I'm tired of calling in a sparky every time one of my downlight transformers die. I've seen how they work and how he screws the wires back in .... how unsafe is it for me to replace one of these myself and match...
Hi all,
Have 6 x GU 5.3 LED downlights in the bathroom. Had no issues for 3 years and lights have started flickering and some go off for periods and come back on randomly. Changed the bulbs for new ones but exactly the same. There is no dimmer switch. Just a standard single way switch. HELP!!!
I am building a single story extension which will be a gym. The ceiling will be sloped and higher than usual with 2 x skylights in it. It is an apex roof.
I'm looking for adjustable downlights at least 700 lumen (preferably more) and also dimmable.... Or, any other clever ideas for lighting? I...
I'm fairly certain the answer is yes. But I've drilled a hole for an LED downlight and unfortunately it's busy with cables. Moving it will be a hassle due to the spacing of the other lights, just before I do - are the LED lights somehow such low temp that I could in fact just keep it here...
I am trying to get a definitive answer to a question regarding the regulations on the installation of downlights.
Could you please tell me under what circumstances it is a legal requirement for fire safe downlights to be fitted rather than ordinary downlights.
I have a top floor flat with...
Hi, I’m new here, hopefully a simple question for the professionals.
I am installing down lights in an upstairs bedroom. The plasterer has gracefully removed the lamp and pushed the cables up into the loft.
In the loft I now have a cable coming from the bedroom light switch and a second cable...
Hi, my bathroom downlight has started flickering. it is an integrated 9w lamp from Aurora, which appears to be discontinued. The lamp plugs into a socket in the roof simply enough and I have managed to plug into the same socket another Aurora lamp in the bathroom which works fine, indicating...
Hi all
Was checking out some downlights at property. Only had half hour there and due back next week to delve into it further. Upon first one checked the first thing I noticed was just how hot this fitting was I'm not sure if the following readings would have any bearing on this. With switch on...
Hi All
Just wondering how you guys approach requests for downlight installs. Upto now I only attempt them if have access to floor boards above or the ceiling has been temporarily dropped so have easy wiring access. If ceiling is the more modern suspended type ceiling obviously not a problem to...
Yes that one again - been answered a millions times BUT often the answer is do what the MI say. I have the Enlite DLM982x and it doesn't specify any distances. Obvisouly I'm fitting LEDs but these cans would in theory allow a halogen.
SO, belts and braces seems to suggest 50mm but could I fit...
I need to install around 40 downlights in an upcoming job. Iv not had to install this amount at once before and I'm looking for fire rated and dimmable.
I'm conscious that the LAP ones you can get from screwfix and the likes are cheap but may come back to bite me in the rear.
Iv looked at the...
Hi All,
I'm looking for peoples opinions on down lights, what are peoples preferred -
Warm white
Colour changeable
Large beam angle
I'm also interested in what LED tape you are using, ideally tape that can go at 90 degrees.
All to be fire rated.
TIA

Hello,
I am new and desperately seeking advice on some integrated downlights. The connector has made it seemingly impossible for me to buy some replacements.
It is a Luxna integrated luminare style, so the whole thing has to be replaced when failed. It's warm white, 240v, 10w and IP65 (the...
I drilled into a soffit to fit a downlight. The soffit wasn't wood, growing a bit concerned it's asbestos.
Few questions:
1. If it's not wood, what other building material could it be? It's a thin, dry almost plasterboard like sheet.
2. If it were asbestos, would sticking the downlight in the...
Below is a photo of the kitchen in my new build house. It will have 900mm high worktops in a U shape at the end of the room.
Can you recommend me a good quality LED downlight?
As you will see the ceiling is high so I guess I will need something with a bit of power and a decent beam.
My...
Some advice please:
I have 6 x GU5.3 low voltage down lights controlled from a single switch in my office. Each down light has its own transformer.
I want to ask an electrician to add a 240v double spot light with its own switch at the end of the existing daisy chain as per the attached...
I've just fitted five Click Interceptor Pico downlight in the lounge to replace Click MR16 fittings but the light is very flat compared to tungsten, the angle is far more than the 90º quoted so the light spills everywhere. What are people's views on these integrated LED downlight as I'm thinking...
