Sorry if this is posted in wrong place.
Obviously just showing you guys a photo will never give a complete overview but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also we do have an electrician due to visit by beginning of next week. We've lived in the house for 6 years (2...
I’m 29 studying electrical engineering level 6 in Scotland. And from what I’ve seen modern apprenticeships are only available to 18-24 year olds. Is there any way for me to get a job as an apprentice spark? Do electricians generally take on people my age? Starting to wonder if I’ve wasted my...
I am carrying out a refurbishment job on this old panel board and fitting in a new panel board from Schneider. The current supply to this building is a 100amps BS88-2 Gg (assuming). I am planning to protect the outgoing submains with the NSX100 ML 2.2 set at 100 and 63 respectively. I don't know...
Hi
I have a scantronic 9800 control panel with Aritech sensors.
One of the window shock sensors has a continual red led lit.
The system is around 30 yrs old.
I need to replace the Aritech sensor.
There is no model or id on the sensor but I have posted a couple of photos.
Can I replace it with...
I have been asked to help convert two old theatre lights to Retro accent light fittings and would welcome any ideas.
The light units are tripod-mounted, very old units, with filter holders at the front end and barn-door levers at the rear.
The idea is to convert these to modern-industrial chic...
Hi all.
Just bought a house and it needs some attention to the electrics in terms of layout - loads of rooms that need 2 way switches don't have them, weird lighting set ups where one switch will do an inside and outside light at the same time etc, mostly trivial stuff.
I had planned to get a...
Hi all,
I'm looking for a very specific 70's US outlet (see picture). This is probably a part of an old power strip, and I would like to find exactly the same... Any idea ?
Thanks.
Stephane
Hi ! I could use some official advice please. Is the old Twin Mains Fuse system considered unsafe and worthy of a C2 on a Condition Report ? My feeling is that it's technically unsafe. I'm wondering if it could be classed as a C3 if the rest of the installation is ok, only because I'm under...
Hi Looking at an old 3036 board and 2 peak and off peak immersion supplies. The cable looks like it is in between a 1.5 and 2.5. It is fused with a 15 amp fusewire. I know some old cabling is imperial but was this a regular thing for a batch of cable in the 70/80s???
Hello - a light switch in my communal hallway has died and the rose is in need of replacement too. I have permission from the freeholder to do said works however was wondering if I need a qualified electrician (NICEIC) to do said works or can I do it myself - I've done many such jobs before and...
Hello
I understand that this may be an impossible one to answer, but I have been surprised on many occasions with what info is out there if you only ask. So here goes.
I am trying to locate historical cable data sheets for paper lead cables that were probably installed in the 1960s
I think...
Have to replace this old board for a elderly relative of my soon to be wife, British Gas have been along and used soem of the special triangle stickers to say it is unsafe - but still fitted the new boielr anyway with a FCU from the socket circuit in kitchen, as always money is the priority for...
I have old wiring in my bathroom.
It has two black wires and one red. Also some exposed wire which seems to be coming from the two black wire sleeves
I want to fit a new light. From my understand i have brown = live yellow = earth blue = neutral. Which wires do i put where. On the old light...
I've done basic wiring, not a pro by any means. But I know enough to not electrocute myself, which is why I'm not touching this until I understand it. Pic below.
I want to replace that old black cable going from this box to an outlet over my workbench. It's the two wire, no ground type...
To find the electrician had spurred off the ring main in 2 x 2.5mm cables to 2 new sockets in bedroom above.
This was done a year ago by an electrician from Mybuilder.com
I doubt if it was tested but if it had of been would this of shown up in a test?
Secondly is this a way of spurring off...
I have an outlet outdoor, supported straight up by a galvanized pipe. It has only black and white wires, no ground. The galvanized pipe is extremely rusted and breaks exposing wires inside the pipe !!! On top of that, it has no electricity either.
Please note my home is ~40 yrs old.
I tracked it...
Hi Everyone,
The CU is c.2006 and I was hoping NOT to have to pay for a new metal CU with all new MCBs, RCDs etc. There seems to be a lot of debate about whether my lighting circuit at position 7 requires an RCD but if it does can anyone figure out a way of using the existing CU - the space at...
