On dedicated 16amp mcb Wired in 2.5t&e to sfcu (13a fuse) then 2.5mm heat resistant flex. Fuse has popped twice in last 8 weeks etc. Element R 18ohms. all seems ok? Should I just swap sfcu for 20amp double pole switch? haven't clamped to measure the draw yet as didn't have it with me.
Cheers
OK, I've done a search for the above on the forum and I don't really think a definitive answer has been given, so I pose the question for discussion; how would you carry out live tests on an economy 7 circuit where you cannot gain night access?
I pose the following:
1) For non RCD protected E7...
Hi All,
First off.. I'm NOT an electrician and am not about to commence DIY electrical work! Just looking to get clued up before calling a sparky out.
I'm having some work done on our bathroom which involves the fitting of Warmup underfloor heating and I've got an issue in that we have an old...
Quoting earlier today for extra light in bathroom, checked CU, lighting is not on RCD half of board. Pointed out issue to client and discussed it, i.e. bathroom lights need to be moved to RCD protected circuit or otherwise RCD protected if I am to do the work, client says "Oh, the electric...
Client wants (indoor, domestic) socket moved a matter of a few feet, assuming cable is not to be buried in wall, would you say for regs compliance socket must be RCD protected? I know the answer is liable to be yes because it's adding a new socket and decommissioning the old, but just wanted to...
Hi doing an eicr on a tt system, plastic board, bonding ok! It is a split 16th edition board with 80amp 100m/amp main switch which has the lighting, smokes and boiler on. On the other side is a 63amp 30m/amp rcd protecting sockets, cooker and shower. The Ra is 28 ohms.
anyway my interpretation...
Hi there,
I'm a newly trained electrician with limited experience and could really use some expert advice. I've searched through the forum about this but have only managed to confuse myself further. I have been asked to add a double socket to a living room ring circuit. My plan is to spur off...
Hi
I've just got to the end of a job in which I installed a 2way RCD protected CCU supplying 1x50a shower circuit and 1x16a radial circuit which consists of a 13a switched fused spur (outside bathroom) for a 2kw bathroom blow heater.
Typically now the job is finished the customer has decided...

Hi, I'm basically installing a single weatherproof socket in a garden for a pond pump, and I'm wondering if there are any sockets with a stake attached, to knock it in the ground, in situations where there is no permanent fixing point? Just wondering what people have done in this scenario and...
Hi, carried out an inspection this week on an installation which consisted of two phase three wire to a small building from an electrical switch room. The supply is wired using 25mm LSF/SWA protected by BS-88 at the sub. At the building the supply is terminated into a 947-3 isolator and then...

I might be COMPLETELY wrong.... but I have recently finished my level 3 in college and I'm sure I was told that if a Zs value is higher than the max reading in BS7671 it's okay if it's protected by a 30mA RCD, so it passes. I sort of remember writing 'satisfactory' on the test form next to Zs...
:confused5: I have been asked to wire up a couple of CU on plug tops on a display for tenants to show how to go about basic fault finding before they send for a call out .
I used 2 wylex boards , one with dual rcd and one with none .
I put a neutral earth fault but that resulted in the plug...
Hi Guys, Customer has brought a Lay-Z- Spa pool (basically an inflatable hot -tub) which comes with pre-wired plug top and flex for the pump/heater controls etc. The pool will be positioned outside, rear of detached garage. I proposed wiring an outside weather proof skt which will be RCD...
Right here's the info...there's a small 2-way consumer unit in a external garage. Just a 40A main switch with two MCB's one for lights & one for sockets. Was adding lights & sockets today & the guy I work with said that as we were adding to the circuits we'd have to replace the main switch with...
Hey guys!
I have recently been ask to install a submain to a customers workshop.
The installation I was going to use was a 100mA DP Timedelay RCD with a 32A MCB at the supply origin for the SWA submain. In the workshop I was wondering if I can install and DP Isolator with RCBOs to protect the...
Hi I have a 6 way split load board located in the shed and served by 10mm SWA. Anything on the unprotected side of the board tests and works fine. However this is not the same for the protected side. I can plug a radio in and the circuit does not trip, but if I use the lawn mower or a drill the...
