Hi Folks,

Went to replace a couple of light fittings today. No CPC on lighting circuit at all, except the supp bonded bathroom fitting. OK that makes sense to me, house was built mid-late 60's.

Advised replacement of 3 class I fittings as a minimum. However, discovered a CPC at a light switch. So I went around with R2 lead and found all switch drops were earthed.

Why would this be the case? Ran out of the new-fangled (remember it the 60's!) 1mm T&E perhaps and just used twin for the CCT cable?
Designed to a previous edition of the regs pre lighting CPC's?
Or was this common practise for a while?

Suppose if (part) rewired it saves on knacking the decor for the s/drops!!

Puzzled Owl

well...as long as the existing IRs ok..looks like your in luck there....well, the person ordering the work is anyway....

Cheers Glen,

IR's all spot on...as was the Zs (of sorts!) from the switches.

just puzzled by the set up with the CPC..

I do not know the answer but it suddenly occurs to me that switches are in reach of people in general use and light fittings are not, so if you have to go with this new fangled earthing idea you would only need it at places people could touch easily.
Just a thought and not backed up by any regs or reality!

That would defo make sense. Cheers Richard.

Any proper old school sparks on here who know at all?

Ran out of T+E, rushing.....Didn't want to miss the game (Geoff Hurst's hat trick).

Or perhaps hungover to hell due to Mr Hursts hat-trick!

That reminds me of when I did the Regs course exam, I rushed it like mad as there was a certain european cup final I was missing due to C&Gs ill arranged exam dates!
