i need to wire in an induction hob which is 6.5kw and the cable already chased in is 4mm and would be a real pain to replace for a bigger. I just wanted to know if it would be alright or play it safe with a 6mm?

Well Ref B gives you 28A max on 4mm t&e and the appliance is unlikely to draw all its 6500W at the same time, so 4mm should be fine unless a more onerous installation method has been used.
Ok, clipped direct gives you even more headroom.

4mm clipped direct is 37 amps so depending on the installation method, 4mm is acceptable as I can't see zs being an issue if only 15 meters long.
Also diversity can be applied so the load is likely to be lower than 28 amps anyway.

The hob being 6.5kw - but what would it actually draw?

I've just been working on a kitchen where the customer sourced, induction hob, came fitted with a 13A plug!
