Hi all. Just a quick one to introduce myself, am 43 and decided to give up the office management job that I never got any satisfaction from to take the plunge. Hoping to go self employed, and have done the Level 2 with Level 3 ongoing. Any advice on how I can get opportunities to work to start working towards a portfolio would be massively appreciated. Looking forward to chatting with you guys. Thanks!!

TL;DR
Where to get work for older trainees new to the industry? Would most electricians prefer a young and keen trainee/apprentice or an older more reliable one that's potentially taking it more seriously?
I would try to get yourself some local on-site experience , contact local firms and offer your time in exchange for some job experience. What you learn on-site will be invaluable if you want to go self employed in the coming years

Thanks so much Dusty really appreciate any advice on this. Thought initially I might be able to get an Electricians mate job maybe but agree any on site experience will be gold. You think offering my time for free will be the best first step? I've heard that it might be necessary at the beginning. Thanks again

Free Or a very low rate is the best way to get your foot in any door , if they like you and like your work then after a couple weeks its much easier then to 'discuss' money
