Hi, I’m after some advice for an existing car charger that’s on one of our newly inherited sites.
We have a Rolec 2x 7.2kw pedestal charger, just the basic model, no o-pen detection or anything like that.
Whoever installed it only ran a 32A supply to it so if both sockets are in use it trips the breaker. It’s also connected to the pme supply, no earth rod.
Im not really keen on having a 63A load on one of the phases but it’s been paid for now so they are wanting to keep it and ideally don’t want throw much more money at it.
I plan to run a 63A supply in from another Db as the one it’s currently being fed from doesn’t have the capacity.
Im a little unsure on achieving the earthing requirements. I’ve always installed Zappis before so not had to worry. I know you can get Matt -E devices but these are quite costly. I’ve seen the Garo pme detection devices but not sure if they are suitable for a single phase circuit within a 3 phase install, also I could stick a rod in but doubt I could get low enough resistance needed for a 63a charger.
Im starting to think it’s too much hassle and to just get rid and put another charger there but they’re understandably not keen on stumping up a couple of grand for a couple of a Zappis or similar.
Just looking for some advice from anyone with more experience with car chargers than myself, ideally keeping the charger we have. Ta.
