I have a renault trafic. I am not good at reversing, I bump things. My reversing sensors have packed up so i am bumping more things than usual. I will get the reversing sensors fixed, but I also want a reversing camera.

Could anyone recommend a reversing camera?

How do they work? Do they just come on automatically when you go into reverse gear or can you overide this and switch them on anytime? Any particular useful functions to look for in one?

got mine from ebay. wired power from rear screen demister, and signal into head unit. works independently of reversing.

if you haven't got a head unit, just a dinosaur radio, you'll also need a screen. complete kits on ebay.

I have this screen. Very good for the money. Can’t comment on the camera - I have a proace. My first camera packed up after it let water in after 6 months or so. I replaced with a different slightly more expensive brake light camera and it’s been good for a year or more.

Total cost including both cameras was about £175 plus a few hours of my labour. All of it is powered from the 12v socket in load area. The screen automatically switches on when it receives a 12v trigger from the reverse light.

Don’t go with eBay fancy wancy Wi-fi type reversing camera.
I got one thinking it would work with a spare tablet…. Powered it from tail light rather than reversing, so it would work before using reverse…

It works fine. Powered up… shows on screen….. all good….. until I turn on the engine… then it goes off.

Will be getting a Bluetooth one instead to try.

As it’s just a reversing cam… you don’t really need a perfect high definition view. It’s just an aid.
The really expensive ones, or factory fitted have the moving lines superimposed on the screen, but whatever the view is like, you’ll get used to it.
