Discuss British electrician wanting to move to US I'm in the Electricians Jobs area at ElectriciansForums.net

This person requires some work. They've hopefully explained their skills and qualifications and what area they're in. Otherwise, what's the bloody point?

I'm a recently qualified electrician and wondered if it's possible to move to the US to work? I know the electrical voltage and other things are different but fundamental aren't things the same? Is this a possible or just a pipe dream?

I am a fully qualified electricain with 36 years experience.I travel alot to the US seeing friends and family. The way their electric systems are wired and work still confuses me.Everything seems to be done totally different to us so moving over and expecting to start work would be a very bad idea.
The Americans seems to do everything opposite to us just like driving, fuel pump colours, spelling, naming things etc.
I can remember trying to fix a leaking compression joint for a family friend while I was over there and went to their equivalent of B and Q.I asked for a roll of PTFE tape. The look I got was priceless.I tried explaining what PTFE is and what I wanted it for but they had no idea and looking around the shelves I could not see any equivalent alternatives.I still,to this day,not know how the Americans seal compression joints.

And the chances of moving to the U.S from the U.K to work are Zero at best.

My Son lives, works and owns a house there, he only got there as he already worked for the same company over here.
Getting a work Visa wasn't easy.

You need skills that are in short supply or in a specialist area or which cannot easilly be obtained by a U.S citizen as was the case with my Son.
He had extensive knowledge of his company's products and was also a Senior Manager.
