I did. Depends on your situation . In my role I could make it so I did the right jobs. Your employer is usually happy to help. Get in touch with your chosen training provider and discuss your situation with them.
When I did it, I was in a maintenance role but my employer let me change a small 2 way DB in a room, added some dado trunking and added an FCU to the board in FP. It wasn't strictly needed, but my employer let me do it so I could use it as evidence. It was a cheap exercise on their part, provided me enough evidence and got an old board replaced in the site.
I discussed my proposal all with my training provider beforehand.i can say choosing the right provider helps. One of them wasn't too keen on having me but another had more time for me, listened to my situation and was happy.
