got a problem with pioneer head unit, something cd based, error 11 flashing on screen. seems it could be lens or spindle motor or something. anyone got bit of knowledge on this??

got an account at cpc so can get bits quite cheap.

Error 11 is disk dirty, disc scratched, or mechanical failure. You can also get this from discs made from a pc at home. Try cleaning the lazer with a cotton wool bud and achole or a disc cleaner.

Failing that it is that the drive servo motor not moving there is power send to the servo but the cd information can not be trasfer because cd is not spining.

cheers matey, ive googled and come up with same thing, few people are advising not messing with the lens, and also can be hard to get to due to cd mechanism. the disc loads up etc but is very noisy almost sound like something grates then flashes error 11. can it be the loading motor as well that is classed as mechanical failure.

its a good head unit although oldish. pioneer deh p440. got a good set of pre outs on it too. ive just bought it for £16 so could stretch to a little bit on a repair.

would it be easier to just get hold of a cd changer for it?

ps spark doctor, i was looking on some other forum about repairing head unit and there was someone with same avatar as you, could it be you!! lol!

It sounds like the raising motor that loads the disc has had a head fart and is raising the disc to high and hitting the lens. If you keep using it it will stuff the laser if it has not done so already. should be cheap to have repaired though. About £30,£40 squid.

Not me on the other forum ;)

Have a look locally and see if you have a specialist stereo fitting/supply shop. Someone there will be able to put you in touch.

If you get totally stuck give me a shout.

Probably not. You would have to remove the laser assembly and realign it after repair. If you don't do this properly the laser will not read the disc or worse smash into the drive spindle.
