Hi, I'm new to this so apologies if the answer is obvious! I'm PAT testing a coffee machine as a class 1 as there's nothing on the label to suggest it's a class 2 but when I test it, it says "no earth". Why could this be?

These machines often have inaccessible Class I parts and any external metalwork is essentially isolated from any internal electrical parts.

Thanks, so do I test it as a class 1?

You can't use a Class I test as it will fail assuming your tester is automatic so test as Class II with a note to that fact.

often one or 2 screws are attached to some earthed metalwork inside, it is worth doing a quick continuity test to them.
