Connecting a wall light

Hi all, I’d appreciate some advice on fitting a new wall light (not bought it yet but want to know options for fitting).....

The new light is designed to be wall mounted but has a plug for supply from a socket. However, I’d like to fit it in place of an existing wall unit which is on the lighting circuit and have the following questions:

- Can the new light be fitted by removing the plug and connecting directly to the existing supply or would it have to go via a fused unit? (Can’t think why as it would be on the 5A lighting circuit).
- If there is no need for the fused unit, is it acceptable to make the connection via a 5A terminal block (would still be accessible by lifting the light unit away from the wall)?

It sounds like there was a wall light previously, so perfectly acceptable to connect as you describe with a terminal block and it will be hidden behind the fitting.

When I do the wiring for wall lights I use a metal architrave box with knockouts. Once flushed into the wall gives you plenty of room to house/conceal the connectors, and on many types of fittings the 3.5 mm fixing screws can be used to support the fitting itself !!!!!

fanta sounds good to use ko box if you see wall light first .u would be in trouble if fitting is narow and ur box is mounted horozontal

The knockouts on "ARCHITRAVE" metal boxes are only located at the top and at the bottom of the box so vertical mounting is the normal way to install these small compact accessories !!!!!!!!!
