Pretty certain it is a scuba diving club (at least it was at one time). I know PADI wants nothing to do with them, but I believe that's due to the image they market - not exactly becoming of a professional association.
I know it's not very professional, and the name of that club probably isn't either...

:)

Talk of Tobermory brings me back to the ironmongery thing. Brown's was an emporium that sold everything back in the old days. Spares for anything, primus stoves, kettles, nuts and bolts...squeaky wooden floors, shelves creaking under the weight of the assorted wares, and at one end, an off-sales..
A bit like "Open All Hours" the proprietor often stood in the doorway looking up and down the main street hoping to entice a customer in...
It's still there , more touristy now from last I looked, back there in November, so will take a look.

We had a similar store, back in the day, when I was a young lad. It sold Esso Blue, which my Dad would send me to purchase. Just put your can under to fill up. All done when I was under 10. Imagine that happening now!

Stores gone now, but the hardware store that was next to it, is still there.

Oh Esso Blue

My dad has a promotional “floppy” record with the song on it… (same tune as Smoke Gets In Your Eyes)
Needs another vinyl record underneath it to keep it flat for playing on the turntable.

My home town has an old hardware store which did the drawers of everything, but now they are a Euronics dealer so most of the shop floor is full of TVs and cheap and cheerful washing machines.
Same ‘pik a pak’ bags of spares, but cost more than places like Homebase.

You can do the same with Maccys in store touch screen ordering system…. Taking out and adding in ingredients, even removing the bun from a Big Mac!

it's a parrot that's had a nose job.

I see the new ABBA tour is in trouble already due to noise complaints by local restaurants….

“Can you hear the drums from Nando’s”

You’re saying optimistic there @DPG, but did you know they have reformed, there is a new album and a (virtual) tour… seemingly they will be holograms on stage, or using their ABBA-tars…

(You couldn’t make it up)

Indeed. I look forward to hearing it, I love ABBA!

At a quiz a few years ago, one of the rounds was on Abba. Our team was the only ten out of ten in the whole room, and I answered all the questions without help from the rest of the team.
Couldn't decide whether too celebrate or hide under the table.
There was something in the air that night...

The winner did take it all?

That’s Super, trooper…. Now you didn’t have to call an SOS to win, did you?

I hear our esteemed forum owner is quite good at singing Bohemian Rhapsody….
When he goes to karaoke, everyone shouts:

“Dan, sing Queen!”

I’ll get my coat

a bit like their attempts at singing.
Some people just have no taste ?

To be honest I've only ever listened to the 1st half hour of any Pink Floyd songs. The intro bit where it sounds like they're tuning up.

you only have to see what's in the music charts to evaluate the general public's taste in music. it's gone in one direction... down the drain.

Karl Orff's Carmina Burana is still amongst my top ten, but then there is Bowie, Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Nina Simone and many others.

Normally, I'd disagree with that.... but ive just had a look at this weeks top 40.... Spot on, Tel.

The trouble is, charts now are based on digital sales, streaming etc... not so much physical copies.
So you get someone like Kanye West, has 3 songs in the top 15. Ed Sheeran has 2 and some bloke called Dave has a couple.
(Kanye West. Rap with a capital C)

Its nice that you look back with fondness at the 70's music... but there was just the same amount of rubbish then as there is now.

Take this week in 1974 for example... A good year for being born.
Top 5 included Kung Fu Fighting and Y Viva Espana

They don't write them like that anymore.

The main problem with popular music is that popularity is generated by radio air play, rather than based on merit.

I swear most people would know more about a bar of soap than they do about a bar of music.

most of them are just jumped up kareoke tripe, singing to a backing track. if they got hold of a guitar, they'd wonder what the strings were for or think it was for swatting flies.

We call most of them now days Screechers they have no musical or vocal talent, come back Caruso all is forgiven.
yep. all female screechers or bad---- rappers using foul language to make them sound macho.

And don't forget to fold your middle two fingers in and point to the left with your right hand and to the right with you left hand and then grab your crutch and thrust forward.

and Pavarotti.
Who always sang without any strain, Carreras on the other hand always sounded as though he was going to pass out any minute, Domingo was somewhere in the middle of the two, but never the less so talented compared to the latest "Talent"???????????

Even going beyond the ability to play an instrument, very few musicians who chart can write songs.
