Hi all,
I'm not an electrician by any stretch, but I do try to do the odd job in my studio. And shortening extension cables is something i need to do once in a while.
When taking the plug off one recently, I saw these tiny crimps that were used. And I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this myself. See video (2 mins) below please for detail.

Thanks for any help in advance,
Sam

Looks like an uninsulated bootlace ferrule. You can you either standard ratchet crimper or a bootlace crimper (see link - The crimps in the link are the insulated variety, see link 2 for an uninsulated set - The device is the same, it's the crimps that change)

The crimp tool used in the advert for those style crimps has a shaped lower section to force the ends to curl in, it's not the crimper for standard crimps like the one you have;
I Think the one Strima has linked is the correct one, second picture,

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, much appreciated.. Has helped a lot. I'll try that crimp tool instead, and also the Aussel connectors that's been linked too. :D
Thanks,
Sam

As above, they are uninsulated bootlace ferrules. they should always be used if terminating fine-stranded wire in screw terminals, etc.

The first example of "Preciva Crimper Plier Set" is the best type to get as they are self-adjusting and fine for most sizes in domestic work. I have used the other types with a per-size slot (as Snowhead illustrated) and they are just far more trouble than the self-adjusting type!

Just to clarify as it's a little ambiguous upthread, the tube-type bootlace ferrules linked on Amazon by Strima use the Preciva tool or one that works in a similar way with sprung V-shaped jaws that intermesh, or any tool intended for bootlace ferrules. As Strima notes, the actual crimping method is not critical as it is the terminal that finally applies the necessary pressure.

The ratchet tool in Snowhead's post #5 with three M-shaped die nests is specifically for the type of uninsulated terminals, used widely in vehicle and appliance internal wiring, where two wings fold into the centre and turn down into the conductor. It is not intended for bootlace ferrules but was mentioned because the cord end ferrules shown in the original video are crimped in this way. However those are usually fitted by factory tooling rather than in the field where the bootlace kind are standard.
