On the flip side of the coin I had some old dear today who's landing, kitchen and outdoor lights had stopped working after someone else had replaced the pendants.
Had a quick shufty - something doesn't quite add up. No power coming from anywhere and certainly not from where the other guy had been (a mate of mine doing his 2391). He said he had already replaced the fusewire in the rewirable, BUT
.....
have a look at the fuses - no continuity in one of them, presumably due to it being stinking dirty and the new wire not making good contact. Shove a good one in, job done.
'How much do I owe you?'
'Nowt, it hasn't cost me anything'
'I insist'
'OK give me a fiver'
Thirty quid pressed into my hand and she won't take any of it back. Also booked in a board change for next Wednesday. So keep your pecker up, mate, there are a lot of misers out there, but there are a lot of really appreciative people as well.

oh dont worry not getting annoyed by it just winds me up...!
job i did after this idiot was for a good customer of mine to connect a extractor hood up!! kitchen fitters only alowed to plug in it but i left no plug just a bit a T&E..... (extractor hand no plug fitted any way BTW) 30seconds later 3x wago cage clamps and a choc box job done!! £30 quid a cup of tea and a kit kat!!! oh and going back after easter to core the wall out and also install 3x downlights and a RCBO CU!!

Chin up fella,
Finally got a response from the guy who I used Thomas Higgins for - all for 55.00 and this is the repsonse I got via Email, bear in mind 1 hour labour and a 2 gang dimmer replaced and testing on downstairs lighting circuit. - 2 days after he received the Thomas Higgins LBA.
This is after a signed contract for the work advising of the price & parts cost before his wife agreed to have the work done

I understand that you are new to running your own business, however, a word of advice for you...
Before quoting check your competitions price and ensure you give the cheapest and best quote, Charging a client a ludicrous amount of money after the event is really not acceptable Ian. I'm afraid I do not believe that you paid £20 for that dimmer switch. I believe you saw an opportunity to rip someone off. That's not good business practice. It would not have cost us this amount of money to repalce a switch had we used another electrician, we have checked

Thank you for your payment, however as no money has entered my account today, payment has not been left at my premises and I have not been informed by my solicitor the payment has been made to them please can you be so kind and inform me how you have made the payment.
I appreciate you may not find me the cheapest - nor do I quote to be the cheapest what you get with my service is a professional, fast, efficient and guaranteed service. If I was the cheapest I don't think I could operate a successful growing business.
Whilst I appreciate your kind words of advice for how to run my business please do not contact me to quote or undertake work in the future due to the payment history of your previous 2 jobs undertaken - 3 months for 1 payment and the threat of legal action to recover another.
If you have any query regarding the above please feel free to contact me between 8am & 10am each morning

I hate the want it for nowt's. £255 and thats without the hour sat at home doing certs, notifications etc. I'm with Phil, probably more hassle than its worth.

I do the certs onsite as it's actually part of the job and it makes the customer see what you actually do. They can see you doing the 'work' typing up the cert on your laptop.
