Cut wire to lamp, nothing else working

Hello, I have an outside light attached to a lampost. The head which is badly damaged and needed replacing anyway has blown off in the wind. To prevent further damage I switched off the electricity and cut the wire (thick flat wire with 3 smaller wires) intending to temporarily terminate it. However when I switched the electricity back on other lights and an electric gate on the same breaker are not working.

Any idea why not ?

The breaker does not "go" once turned back on.

Thanks for reply, no they all are OK. I've switched all breakers / rcd, main rcd etc off and on again.

When you cut the wire to the faulty lamp, did you make sure none of the cores were touching?

Well it turns out you were right ! ... Power is fed to a shed with consumer unit and then back to the gate and lamp. Have a good one.
