Discuss ECS Card? Self Employed? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Have any of you actually applied for and received a gold card?
When I applied for mine, I was self employed and did not have a sponser or provide references.
I had to get someone (an MP or local Councilor) to sign the back of a photo, and make a declaration that they had known me for however long.
All I sent off with my application were copies of my 2361 & 2, 2381 and my H & S certificate.
First renewal, I sent a copy of my H & S certificate.
Second renewal, I sent a copy of my 2382 along with my H & S certificate.
At my second renewal, they also wanted a new photo, which I didn't supply.
DVLA and the Passport Office are happy with a new photo every ten years, so I don't see why the JIB need one after only six.

I think you can get just about anyone to countersign it, same as with a passport or driving licence - local business owner, MP, anyone with a degree (someone who reads books for a living and does the gardening for fun, but NOT someone who does the gardening for a living and reads books for fun).
You can't get a member of your own family to do it.

Yes , and i also was self-employed at the time i recieved my card.
But unless you've had an indentured apprenticeship , they'll want references.
Perhaps they did for you, they didn't for me.
Like I said, I got my photo signed by either an MP or local Councilor (can't remember which), sent off copies of my 2361 & 2, a copy of my 2381 and the original of my H & S/ECS pass certificate.
No references, no sponser and no apprenticeship papers.

Believe it or not, but I always go to my local nick, flirt a bit with the lady on the front counter and then let it out ( the verification of course) and she is always wiling to validate who and what I am,never had any problems to get my card, police counts for something...
she signs the photograph and the application form. If - and I am always - nice to her she also veryfies the copies of my certificates providing the originals, and a 'gift' of her choice. No, really, it does work like that.
