Guys,

Just a quick bit of advice.

I was conducting a EICR and came across a square D board with all square D MCBs apart from 4 schneider MCBs were they must of been upgrades to the installation.

Are these MCBs compatable with each other? If not am i correct in noting this as a code 3?

thanks maggie

Schneider bought out square D so as long as the electrician had bought the right ones they are the exact same breaker with schneider on instead. The part number should be the same or similar afaik.

Depends on which generation you have - Merlin / Schneider MCB's are exactly the same as KQ (modern range) Square D, they are made in the same factory by the same machines except the Square D has a 2 prong clamp fitted, if you take that clamp off - you have a Merlin / Schneider albeit stamped with different name.

You can't take the clamp off now with the Square D as they are glued in , this is so you can not insert into the Merlin Gerlin boards , as the breakers for these boards are nearly double the price

you can grind the buggers off though.

after having the misfortune to have fitted 1 of their easy 9 CUs, then definitely. what a load of crap.

Even the square D type come as schnieder now.

But they fill the screw in with glue so you cant unscrew the prongs. Sneaky!![emoji1]
