Hi there

Unfortunately we had quite a bad fire last night involving the electric shower in the bathroom (nobody hurt). We have got all the necessary people coming today to look and access the house.

Just wanted to post on a forum like this to get opinions from other people.

What could have caused this?? The shower itself? The person who installed the shower? Just unfortunate luck?

This is the where the shower was. There is more damage to the whole bathroom and the bedroom it leads onto.

Thank you for any replies.

Welcome to the forum Mikey

That's a very unfortunate photo, I hope nobody was hurt. It does highlight how serious it is when there's an electrical fault and how easily it could cause a house fire.

Have you got any more photos of the shower cubicle, the surrounding rooms and what's left of the shower itself?

the cause could be anything from a loose connection to a faulty component in the shower. impossible to tell from a photo. may not even be possible from asctually seeing it. main thing is that nobody was hurt and the damage superficial.

The only people who can give good practical advice as to where the fire starter will be the Fire Brigade. Its unlikely that any forum could give any better advice.

A nasty experience - what alerted you? Do you have smoke alarms?

It's hard to see how this could happen if the shower was not in use,and if it was in use then it would never have got to that stage. The only thing I can think that would cause that damage is if the heating element somehow remained on when the shower was switched off.

you'd not got the fan wired into the shower, had you?

Yeah wirepuller thats what the electrician pretty much said earlier, I did use the shower like 2 hours previous but its a very basic shower and just one button to turn it on and off so defiantly was off.

Telectrix not quite sure tbh but I'm pretty sure their is no fan involved with the shower.

Well it certainly made a mess. The cabling makes no sense to me, what are those two cables with the connector block joints on them?
