Just one question without seeming cynical or cruel to animals, dont they have sleeping tablets down under? Know what I would have done.

Well TBH I was a bit surprised by this post :)

So it's taken me a while to reply to it.

Even a domesticated dog would be a bit ****ed if it was happily munching away and then woke up a few hours later in kennels.

It was more to do with getting her used to human beings before the trauma of kennels.

Even though she went to a specialised rottweiler rescue centre, they would have had real trouble with her going straight from feral to kennels.

This way the kennels had something to build on as the girls that rescued her visited every day.

Even after the work the rescue centre put in I'd be surprised if she could be rehomed to anyone other than one of the girls.

My little bundle of rottweiler perfection came from a highrise in London, through the system and ended up in a rottie rescue centre in Scotland.

Nearly a year in foster care she came to us.

Completely distrusting all males, I think she took to me because the missus is clearly in charge :)

I took her everywhere with me to meet as many men as I could.

It did her the world of good but I don't take her out with me anymore as she is too protective of the van.

She is however happy to stay at home covering my bed in black hairs!!!

My mother in law got here after a long journey and promptly sat herself on the dogs sofa in the kitchen.

My rottie does what rotties do and decided she was a 6St lap dog.

"What kind of dog is she?"

"A rottweiler."

"Aren't they dangerous?"

At this point it's worth noting that the dog is in her lap, doing her best to look cute and getting her ears scratched.

"It's more to do with the owners."

MIL then stops talking to me altogether and asks my traitor wretch of a dog how she feels about having to wear a muzzle when she goes out!!!!!!!

"she doesn't have to wear a muzzle she's not dangerous."

This is met with some surprise from the woman who is currently having her makeup removed by the dangerous dog in her lap.

At this point I make an attempt to get my dog off the sofa so my elderly MIL can have some space.

"Don't be mean to her.. she just want's love."

My dangerous dog and the MIL are currently competing for the title of loudest snorer in the spare bed.

Between the two of them I reckon it's about an eight on the Richter scale.

I'm sure anyone who has ever owned an allegedly status or dangerous dog will know exactly where I'm coming from :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I've never met a bad tempered staffie or rottie.
A mate of mine has 2 rotties and they're both as soft as shyte.
Devil dogs, my arse.

I'm looking to adopt another Rottie but may well take on an equally maligned breed.

But TBF I'm not keen on Staffies.

I'm not and never have been a big fan of Terriers.

They can be great family dogs but not for me.

I'm thinking of sharing what is left of my bed with a bull mastiff or maybe a Rhodesian ridgeback.

TBH my little doggie was living with 2 big male Rotties in her foster home and dominated them both.

The little madam is a bit assertive so we would need a large dog :)

Dobie!! :-)

The Dobe rescue centres I've looked into don't like the idea of a dominant dog already in the home.

Especially a bitch.

The reason large Dogs,Mine, yours, Hightowers are so soft and friendly is because they have nothing to prove unlike little yappers.
It is similar to when you see a Ferrari or Lambo cruising nice and slow then you see a spotty 17yr old in a customized Corsa caning the arse off it.
But remember a Big dog WILL assert itself when the time or occasion calls for it!!

An experiment for you to try, get the dobie then lock your wife and the dog in a cupboard for an hour. No warnings no nothing, just do it.
After the hour let them out and make a note of which one is pleased to see you.
This will show you the way forward.

Trouble with that is Trev, you can't perform bedroom antics with a dog, well, most people prefer not to...
