Something just doesn't add up. Please please take some photos of your meters and your fuse box / consumer unit and all the cables and post them here.
The statement from EDF is very very strange.

edf will not do any more regarding my meter now until my house has been rewired.

Which is utter crxp.

They would never say that.

I went to see a client the other night who was complaining of high electricity bills. When I looked at the fusboards the E7 board was switched off!

Something doesn't add up on this thread.

whats a metric watt compared to a imperial watt?

Its actually 1000:1024, metric to imperial. A metric watt is always based on the number 1000. An imperial watt is based on the square root of two (1.4142) multiplied by the triatic scheraldite number, which varies, but is usually taken to be 724. The highest it has ever been been was 726 which threw the scientific world (at that time) into turmoil as nobody believed it could get that high.

Whatt!?
