my bills are between £398-£450 per quarter, update, had edf energy adviser call and test the meter, i had told him as well as showed him my logs of my consumption, i even took photos with my mobile phone as well as my efergy meter, he did say that some times the efergy meter are not correct, i knew that the efergy meter was correct as i compaired the reading with my electricity meter and both were telling me that same consumption, the adviser tested my electricity meter and said it was working properly, whilst he was here i noticed that my efergy meter had gone up to 299 from 0.89, i showed him the efergy meter and he did not give me any comment on it, after he had checked the meter he said that all was working well and that i had burnt so many kw while he was checking the meter , i did not think at the time to say i dont doubt it as it jumped up from 0.89 to 299, surly this must have told him something as i had the same appliances on from the time he arrived till the time he left, as i am still not happy with this i telephoned my council who sent round electrician, he was very understanding and took not of my efergy readings also the readings that i had done for a day with a pen and paper, whilst he was here he actaully saw the meter speed up and said it looks like a faulty meter, i explained that i had the meter checked and that edf found it to be working correctly, i now have to wait till the 13th of march for someone to come and do a check on my internal wiring, this is the council 2nd stage of checking my electricity, before (if needed) we go to the 3rd and final stage, i at this moment do not know what this would entail but will keep you posted, m

Lilly I'm sorry but I don't think they've checked your meter, I think this is another fob off so here's what to do.
Get on to them and as
A What the name of the person who attended was
B What qualifications he/she holds
C What tests (specifically, by name) were carried out by this person
D What were the readings obtained.
E When they are going to install a check meter
F Why has it not been done before now
To coin a not very nice geordie phrase they are peeing down your back and telling you it's raining and they're going to continue doing this as long as they possibly can.
Then tell them you're going to the regulator. That should put a rocket up their backsides and if you need any more help or information we're pretty much always here.

A plumber mate of mine once went to a faulty shower in some student digs, turned off the shower circuit at consumer unit, stuck voltage pen in shower still live, went back turned off the main isolater, went back to shower ......still live!! turned out it was piggy backed off the flat behinds shower!! bet there pay as you go card didn't last long!!

I'm intreagued by this.

Why don't you post your location and see if anyone on here can come and have a walk around with you. Something doesn't add up

Lily,

Could you clarify something, Way back in the distant past one of your posts said that your water is heated communially. but you have also said that you live in a three bed house. Forgive me but what sort of property is this?

Also what are you paying per unit. i was shocked (excuse the pun) when i saw mine the other day and what i could get it for. (25p per unit down to 13p)

Lily Hi

What would be useful would be if you could go to your consumer unit (Fuseboard) and tell us what the number of circuits you have and how they are labelled (if they are that is) For example 1. Sockets upstairs 2. Cooker 3. Lights downstairs.

i live in a 3 bed townhouse markythesparky, we pay for communial heating and hot water in with our rent each week, if the communial heating and hot water goes off or has a problem it effects the whole road of townhouse, and we all just have to wait until the problem is resolved, as i stated i think before that there are no back up boilers for the hot water or heating, these are not new build they were built around 30 years ago, taffyduck will check my consumer unit tomorrow. Another update, really getting fed up with all this now i had the superviser of electric attend my property today, really not happy, he suggest the whole house needs rewiring,(as edf energy will not change my meter over), a new fuse board to be installed, (there was me thinking that things were getting smaller in life now), to be told that my current fuse board is smaller than the new ones they are going into install, they said that they would just make the old one redundant and put the new one above this, but as the old fuse board is within the eye of visitors that attend my property plus myself i shall ask them to take out the old fuse board and block it in with a piece of wood then they can redecorate over it for me, i then asked how they was going to do the rewiring and as i guessed it with trunking (conduit), they explained where they was going to put the trunk and i could not begin to tell you this part as i am really not happy, in fact i feel like just sitting down and crying, i was then told that my shower room that was put in by the council housing adaption team ( due to my daughter having eplilpsie) and was passed with a safety check, that the pully cord has been installed in the wrong place, i though how could this be, it was approved in 2006, unless there are new ruling out there i do not know,so they suggest moving this along side of the toilet the opposite side to where my toilet pully cord is. i shall let you know on these updates once i know more and i will post my outlay of my circuit board, thank you folks xxxx

Lilly, have you had a check meter fitted yet? This should have been done weeks ago and if it hasn't I'd be asking some pretty tough questions if I were you.

I seen something similar to this on watchdog a few years ago and i can't remember fully what was said but after ppl got their meters changed basically instead of charging u say metric kwh they were still being charged imperial kwh. Which worked out nearly 3 or 4 times dearer than it should be...... I'm unsure how u could check this but? Dunno if this is of any use to u.

May be there was one with gas but I too remember watching a program about a mix up between metric and imperial electricity meters.

That was gas. They mixed up was with Foot squared and Metres squared resulting in the bills being wrong.

Gas meters measure the amount of gas used in hundreds of cubic feet or cubic metres, gas bills display your use in kilowatt hours (kWh).
