Gotta carry out that ramp test and see what it throws up , op says theres been a plasterer involved , anything could have been done to that circuit ,,

The rcbo tripped the first time with a bang, so double checked that I connected it correctly. Every time it has been switched on afterwards it has stayed on for a few hours with nothing plugged in and then will trip. All terminations are correct and the circuit tested okay, so I am thinking that it must be a faulty appliance or perhaps the rcbo? Thanks for all the replies.

i Think there was fault on the circuit and when it was livened up the fault has blown apart now leaving an intermittent fault somewhere on that circuit ,,

No, I've not tried leaving it switched on with the circuit disconnected. All the appliances were unplugged though and it still trips.

if only 1st time with 'bang', after 'intermittant', did you check rcbo sat correctly on busbar? (not saying this was cause of 'bang' btw)
