fitting FCU in bathroom, for 600w element in towel rail . Fed from ring main, which is RCD protected. No probs. so far. Prob. is, cust. wants a vanity unit with integral shaver socket and light. If I supply this from the upstairs lighting, I will have to RCD that circuit as well to comply. The problem is, I can't RCBO the upstairs lights as the landing light is split, L from downstairs and N from upstairs.Could poss fit 2nd RCD in board, but it would be a pain. My solution would be to feed the vanity unit from the load side of the FCU so all my work complieswith 17th. If I do no work on the lighting, am I right in assuming that I don.t have to bring the lighting up to 17th. i.e. all circuits in a bathroom have to be RCD protected.701.411.3.3. Both towel rail and vanity unit are outside zone 2. Comments appreciated.

Just put another FCU in for the Vanity mirror, problem solved.

so, i can leave the lights alone?

Yes, your not working on them so they are not your responsibility.

If you mess with the lights you will have to RCD them, stay clear of them.
