My DNO installed a new meter last April. When I came to read it today the display is flashing between the figures and 'rEd'. Is this a meter fault and should I report it?
The meter is a Landis & Gyr Type 5235A.

If its not clocking up used electric, then i would keep my gob shut and plead ignorant;)
common sense prevails. btw, talking about indicators, i need help to find some indicator lamps. just done some work on a 3 phase thyristor control panel. it has 3 running indicators showing each phase is present on the outputs. Red, Yellow, Blue. i need to find replacement lamps in Brown, Bleck, Grey. where can i get them from? ( was going to put this on stupid question of the day but.......)

black lamp .......you sure m8

rEd flashing on a meter means "reversed energisation" which means the meter is broke. After a while the screen will go blank. This means the meter they have installed has had power going into the outgoing live of the meter.

Incorrect. The meter shows the rEd display for "reserve energy" not "reversed energisation". The reversed energy can come from photovoltic panels and micro generation etc putting back into the grid.

If you swap the incoming tails with the outgoing tails you get a reversed energisation. Meters that are used for solar panels do not flash up with this. After a while of displaying red the display goes blank. Ive changed enough meters in the past 4 years with this problem

If you swap the incoming tails with the outgoing tails you get a reversed energisation. - Depends what you mean. Without discussing too much on a public forum regarding this you'd end up with N-L-L-N at the meter depending on how you swapped the tails etc.

Meters that are used for solar panels do not flash up with this. - I was referring to the DNO meter.

After a while of displaying red the display goes blank. Ive changed enough meters in the past 4 years with this problem. - Seen loads of these myself too but the meter never goes blank after a while. Might be a BG thing but definatley doesn't affect ours.

What ive experienced is you have L and N from the cut out go into L and N on the out going of the meter, then L and N from the cu going into the incoming L an N of the meter. Basically its not a cross polarity its a reversed polarity. This buggers the meters because 90% of the meters out there are only configured to carry current one way.

This can be the case on some yes. But I've seen correctly connected meters and supplies with no cross or reversed polarity also showing the same rEd display.

Fair enough ive only experienced the reversed polarity meters flashing rEd. We tested 10 types of single rate digital meters and after a while of the rED they all went blank.can only comment on what i see. I do know that landis and gyr have made new meters to avoid this when solar panels are installed
