Evening All....

I have a customer that is gutting a property - literally: roof off and just left with a shell. Then starting again from scratch should end up with a nice 5/6 Bed detached house.

He wants me to go over some 'electrical + data' options regards future proofing and energy saving.

My list so far :

LED lighting
Network the place
Some form of renewable - but not my area unfortunately

Still thinking...... any other ideas welcome
:thinking2::thinking2:

Many thanks,

Sy

PV or wind power mate? You could do both if it's windy enough I suppose. What about all the other ridiculously expensive renewable technologies like ground source heat pumps

Ground Source heat pumps
Air source heat pumps
Rainwater harvesting
Wet Underfloor heating
P.V Solar
Biomas boiler with thermal store and electric heating (P.V powered)
Plenty of insulation
Pressure test the building shell for air leaks.

Pv inroof is the way forward on this one if he can get planning for a small wind turbine too he will really benefit
it depends on his budget realy but theres water harvesting and a ground source heat pump to look at along with led and under floor heating with heatmiser network controls.
the list is endless if the budget is there

Looking to do the same when i sell existing property, i think he needs to think about the walls as they will need to work to get a good insulation. That is where i would spend money, ditto the floor, loft is a given. LED lighting everywhere, PV on roof,
As for data, ethernet switch on closet, data point everywhere for audio / video and home automation, AV server to store all the stuff to play anywhere.
Plenty of outdoor lighting up the garden maybe LED patio lights, they look cool.
Feeds to garage, shed, summerhouse, pond etc

It all generally depends on the budget, location, degree of shelter etc. However, there are a number of options available.
High efficiency condensing boiler or a biomass boiler, however space would be needed to store the pellets, and there are financial incentives available for this.
Solar PV, again, with financial incentives involved.
There are central control system products that allow you to control the lighting in your home via remote control connected through wifi.
Underfloor heating with individual room zone control and remote control.
These are just a few options available, there's plenty more!

Would recommend checking the Energy Saving Trust site out....
All the info you need is there!

Never heard of anyone singing the praises of Ground Source Heat Pump Systems. Heard plenty say that they actually cost more to run with the pump than without though...lol!!! Now that maybe because the systems weren't installed correctly in the first place, especially on the the coiled pipework side of things....
