problem is this printer has the plug on the end As seen in pic. Has anyone been able to extend this cable using cat5e or use an adaptor of some kind. I have aspare cat5e nearby i can use, otherwise running a wire will be a nightmare in a newly refurbished property. Ps the other end of the lead is usb.
thanks

It looks like a standard printer lead (USB Type B male pictured going to, I’m guessing, a USB Type A female). I’m assuming there‘s a separate power supply lead on a normal plug as well?

To turn it into a network printer you’ll probably need a print server like this Print Server - Amazon

The question has to be how long overall is the USB cable going to be as over 10 metres they get a bit unreliable

The last time I worked on EPOS systems the cables to the kitchen printers were cat5 with the local printers on USB

That's USB 2.0 B. Do you mean a spare run of cat5e cable that goes from one point to another? You can get extenders that will send the USB signal up to 100m via network cat cable, without it actually being part of a network. They come in various flavours, some require power at one or both ends, some are powered from the computer. Just search USB 2.0 cat5e extender.

thanks for all the replies i have ordered the usb cat5e adaptors. £9.99 on amazon. The run is approx 30m and yes it is a spare cable run from till to back kitchen. Once fitted i will report back if it works, hopefully then this thread may have some value to members in the future.
