Hey fellas, here i am again. Just I was curious with how pre paid electric meters work and specifically how do they know the token entered is the one; is there a connection made with the electricity supplier HQ or they are incorporated with formulas to decipher the tokens or there is another way and in addition how do the remotes work.
Ladies and gentlemen welcome for discussion

It probably varies world wide, but I suspect at the point of payment you buy X kWH of energy at the price there and then, so the meter need not know the going rate.

In the old card meters they are program with weekly charges and KWH prices ,they cards have a arbitrary value on them say £5 , this then disconnects when its run out .
this depends on time / weekly charge and amount used - KWH. and any amounts owed.
none if this is used to create a bill only the meter readings or estimated, and the amount credited to that account.

The simple answer would be Encryption for anything using radio !
-- Which is why they would rather like it kept secret .. So fraud doesn't cause cost of software upgrades ... Again.!

you put your £1 coin in the slot. this then dropps through the bars of a hamster wheel, waking up the hamster, who then runs like crazy. turning the wheel which is connected magically to a 240V generator which provides you with your electrickery. sssimpless.
