How many downlights should be in the bathroom?

Hello everybody! I have a question regarding downlights installation.Is there any rules that applyes for how manu lights should be in the bathroom? I found out that when installing downlihts there should be 1 meter from the wall, and 1 meter distance between lights.Is that rules correct? Please point me on the right direction.Many thanks.

To work it out divide the room size in mm2 by 13.2 the x by 18 then find the square root and that will be your answer

customers usually think in a different way and its usually between 2 and 8....

Depends how big the room is.... I had 12 in my old bathroom, I only have 6 in my new one.

I suppose every one has there own way of doing it but as a rule of thumb I divide the square area of the ceiling (in metres) by 1.9 to calculate the number of downlights required. obviously an area like a kitchen could be different due to wall cupboards, etc.

It depends on the wattage/output and 'beam angle' of the lights too obviously.

Your 1 m method is probably OK for most situations, but perhaps down to 0.5m from the walls if possible, however it is important to know what lighting effect is required by the customer.
They may want nice and bright or dim and cosy.
You may want to have different areas of accent lighting, loads of choice.
But for lighting a room (I would normally say do not use downlights as they are rubbish, but I am against most customers wishes!) then keeping a constant spacing around each downlight: so if you think the downlight will light out to 600 mm then the downlight spacing would be 1200mm apart and 600mm from a wall.

When I moved in to my house ATM it had 21 downlights in the front room. I over boarded the ceiling, had it plastered and got rid of the lot of them.

The fitting may be flush to the ceiling but the light certainly isn't !
