Hello, I am hoping that I have found the right place for help. I have for months had an issue with my water heating. Lived in the property for over 5 years without any prob's until this year, it is a electrical system with a single rate meter (according to my supplier) we also have storage heaters. We have a fused spur in the kitchen along with a boost, I have noticed that the spur comes on between 1am and 8am everyday however I get no hot water unless we use the boost in which case its red hot. We have to do this every day and it's costing a fortune (£144 a month) 3 bed maisonette!

I've had both plumbers and electricians out, internal electrics have been tested. Main fuse is fine, both immersions are working, tank was nearly new when we moved in. Plus the boost works so the water does heat up. We were told to contact the supplier as it might be a timer issue. We don't have a timer for the water and the supplier advised that it is a single rate meter and the electic is on all the time. So how does the fused spur know when to come on and when it does why does it not heat the water???

Uber confused and stressed to bits... I have a young family and need this sorting for Winter coming. Any help and advise would be amazing... cheers Ben

Hey, thanks for all the advise. Oldtimer sorry for leaving you hanging, not intentional. Due to my working hours it's not always possible to be around. As an update, I had had a plumber freind replace the bottom immersion based upon the information given. That has solved the problem HURAH!. shame this could not have happened weeks ago. Thank you truely for all the advise I would of still been stuck now. It is also an eco 7 meter. Cheers Ben

Well here I am again!!! NO F'IN HOT WATER.... not even a week later..

Now i've noticed that the spur that comes on to heat the water overnight (usually between 1am and 8am) does not come on any more. Boost still works, changed the fuses and checked the spur which isnt a fused one still no luck. Again I have been asked to look for a timer?? again I CANNOT find a timer. I've ased Neighbours who have no timer.
The emmersion was replaced which doesn't have a timer just a thermo. My mate who replaced it asked me to check the reset button which I have and that has'nt done anything.

Back to square one... wonderful... :cuss:

fuse or breaker in CU?

fuses. There are two on the box when i've looked. 15amp chunky blue ones. IMAG0072.jpgIMAG0070.jpgIMAG0071.jpgIMAG0073.jpgIMAG0074.jpg
Here is my set up, pic 1 is the fuse box, two fuses that say 'water heater', pic 2 tank with two immersions, pic 3 is the electic points for the tank, pic 4 is the boost switch and spur that comes on 1am to 8am, pic 5 is the meter. This is all that I know i've got as a set up.

This is a big thread for a small problem

If you want to know if the supply exists at the spur, change it to a socket.plug a radio in with the volume full blast, then go to bed,if you sleep well you aint got no supply

might be easier for him to buy a £10 volt stick. see if the spur becomes live at 1.00am.

The £10 volt stick can be bought just about anywhere but go to your wholesaler not the orange shed, they give a visible and often audible signal when held near a live source. Sometimes you have to press a button to make them work, I wouldn't trust my life to one but they give a handy indication
