Hello I'm an apprentice sparks

I was wondering on a makita impact Driver, it says 5Amps 18v on the battery, if the wires in the body of the drill were exposed and someone who was using the drill touched the wires what would happen ? I was told at College around half an amp will kill you so I was wondering how it works with Batteries.
Thank you.

Hi,"worried of London",the "5" will be Ah or Amp hours, which is the capacity of the battery, and 18 volt is a tad low for execution duty:) Hence site use 110V being deemed safer than 240V.

It is an extremely difficult task,to determine what level of voltage/current,is lethal.

What is possibly a little wake-up tingle, for a human, can instantly kill,a 600 Kg horse,or even four at once, and having to extract them from their resting place, imprints this fact on the memory...

What stage are you at in your apprenticeship? What literature has been recommended for your studies?

Don't go for that interview for HV distribution, Faraday platform jockey,if your battery drill makes you nervous ;)

Haha it doesn't make me nervous !! a chippy asked me how much does it take to kill you, I said just under 1amp and he was like so this drill could kill me and I didn't know how to respond haha. I've only done 4 months of college so far, but your response really helped thank you !!

Generally speaking...

0.1 amps is deemed leathal. 10mA (0.01) and you're still going to have a bad day. Especially if it flows across the ole ticker. I.e. Hand to hand.

But you still require voltage to deliver the knockout blow. 18V isn't that blow, 50+ is.

5Ah is another thing, thats battery capacity multiplied by time. (Run time)

Oh, and 110 is deemed safer due to our UK tool transformers being CTE, centre tapped to earth. 55V from either of the 2 lines to earth.

Ahhhh that makes sense!!! That's bang on what I needed to hear I'm glad I know that now.
Thank you !!!
