hi, i have a megger mft1552, purchased in 2008, has not been calibrated for a few years, its never been used for work, just a few home/family jobs and practice testing when i was going through college learning. Tried to use it for the first time in well over a year the other day and it seems to have a problem.

On IR testing even without the leads connected it will only go up to 6.5-7Mohms on all 3 voltages. Ive tested the other functions on my kewtech F1000 checkbox and the measurments are good but on IR it will only read upto the 6.5-7 . The megger has new batts at 12.2v.

Has anybody seen this problem before? or have an idea what it could be? i am hoping it could just need tweaking and calibration, can it be adjusted when calibrated?. I know megger will want ££££'s even if its a simple fix, it would be a shame to not try and get it working as its probably only been used 15-20 times and looks brand new. Dont want to send it to be calibrated if theres def a fault that i cant afford to repair.

any advise would be helpful and very appreciated.

Hi snoopydo, if you can fund the postage and send it to us in Leeds (or drop it in if you're local), I can run a calibration check against the manufacturer's specs to see if any problems arise.

If the tester needs adjustment I can quote you for an adjustment and repair charge, but if you decide not to go ahead I will simply send the tester back to you without charge.

PM me for further information

Has it been stored in a damp shed, my PAT tester did this after being stored for a long period, it disappeared within a few hours, probably slightly damp inside. Although it probably still needs calibrating. Needless to say I keep it indoors now.
