Is pvc pvc T&E soon to be written off ?

I made a very rare trip to my local wholesalers today (I usually buy stuff online now and have it delivered) and was speaking to the manager who I have known since college.
He reckons in the coming amendment to the regs , grey pvc pvc twin and earth cable will be written off and we will be required to use LSF / LSOH cable domestically...

anyone else heard this ?

Sounds like salesman speak for either
1 I have loads of lsf cable that I must sell
2 wow, the mark up on lsf is 10% more than pvc

He was absolutely adamant that this was a genuine amendment that LSF will replace pvc pvc ...

can see loads of future eicr reporting that full rewire required due to old pvc wiring

Don't recall anything in the proposed AMD 2 - though there might be a push from someone like the Fire Brigade after Grenfell perhaps?

I suspect most of what the wholesalers come up with is what they are told by the manufacturers, so more than likely a cable manufacturer looking to drum up business on a higher profit line...

Could someone in a wholesaler have ordered LSF by accident, by clicking on what looked like the right picture, and needs to shift it...

Maybe the cable cartel is miffed that most PVC wiring from the 70s on is still more or less fine and doesn't need replacing yet

In theory pvc pvc should last forever in the right conditions like under a dry floor or in conduit in a wall.

Don't think I've ever seen PVC wiring that has failed other than damage or a loose connection at a terminal - even the 60s stranded stuff.

What causes the green goo issue with early stuff - was cable manufacture changed or type of mortar?

Re: Green goo - I've not run into it fortunately, but apparently:

"The green slime, or green goo, is degraded di-isoctyl phthalate and is considered to result from a chemical reaction between the plasticiser of the insulation and the copper conductor in the pvc cable. Between 1965 and 1971 the temperature performance of pvc was uprated by the inclusion of an anti-oxidant into the pvc compound. An unappreciative side effect was that the anti-oxidant encouraged production of the green goo"

Typical, I'll be left with loads of PVC that I've just bought, to go with a couple of reels of 'old' colour wiring that I've still got kicking around - my hording will not allow me to throw away or scarp for a pittance. The joys of only doing a few jobs a year for friends and family. Maybe I should start a cable museum?

Of course if I paint my PVC white I should be okay no matter what?

I believe pvc trunking won't be allowed in specified 'escape routes' if the proposed AMD changes come in, so maybe this is related to that? (or maybe it's horseshit....).

good , can’t stand mini sticky trunking anyways,
nothing smacks more of a diy job than cables run in sticky back trunking

What would the market for that be? Surely anyone planning to use it to somehow bypass current regs by claiming it was done 20 years ago wouldn't care enough to pay that much for it?

I know a sparks with serious ocd who won’t wire new colours to old colours , he buys old colours off eBay anytime he has to alter / add on to old red black wiring...
