I'm installing a socket for an outside pump. Pump is situated in a small well. The MI say an IP68 socket should be installed at the top of the well for it to plug in to. It is a standard 3 pin plug.

I'm sure something isn't quite right here. I can't find an IP68 socket and can't believe there is such a thing as it would need to be submersible. I will clarify with the customer but thought I would check here first, in case someone says 'here it is'!

Are the MI's in chinglish? If there's more that one or two spelling mistakes I'd assume it's a typo. You do get IP68 sockets but not for a standard 13A plug. Just use a normal outdoor rated socket if they've supplied it with a 13A plug.

Just got off the phone to the manufacturer. They had actually given the wrong advice to the customer. It was actually an IP66 socket.

I don't think he actually new what the numbers meant!

I've used IP67 BS4343 stuff for borehole pumps. Usually 4 pin blue for the separate capacitor from the motor.
TLC offer an IP68 plug and line socket, but it's not anything like a standard 13A plug.

IP68 water resistant in fresh water to a maximum depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes,
