Does anybody here know of any regulation or statute that states electrical isolation for a gas hob and electric oven must be via separate switches. I've been looking in Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations and cannot find any reference to it

gas hob ignition comes with a fitted plug. elec. oven ditto or it's hard wired to CCU. thertefore they are on separate switches. QED.

I assume you are thinking of using an existing cooker switch to isolate both gas hob supply and electric oven supply.
The only thing I can think of is that >2kW loads should have their own dedicated circuit and so adding the gas hob would be using two items.
That said a circuit can be designed that is suitable but I would tend to take them both to socket outlets which applies the switching to each as Tel says above.
I would certainly do this without a qualm.

Thanks Tel. This is one obvious way to provide separate isolation by placing both the hob ignition and oven on separate circuits.

Richard, both loads are pretty minor (<2kw) so unlikely to develop an overload situation.

I'm just wondering whether there is something in the Gas regs that states that a single isolated point for ignition to more than one gas and/or elec appliance is not acceptable.

First of all follow manufacturers installation requirements, these override all standards. Commonly for electrical connections, appliance companys presribe BS7671, im not aware of any requirment within GSIUR.
