Our light bulb went yesterday. Nothing appeared to trip and no issues elsewhere.

New light bulb not working either today.

Does anyone have any suggestions please before we call out an electrician.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Without the correct test equipment, I’m afraid you will have to get an electrician involved, but as it is only one room, it shouldn’t take long to diagnose.

It may be simply needing a new switch, or a new fitting.

What condition is the fixtures and fittings in? Are they quite old? Corroded maybe?

Do you have a breaker that needs flipping down and up to reset it?

screw in lamps can be an issue if the center terminal has become bent back a little and is not contacting the back of the lamp.
If this is the case, turn off power to house (big red switch) use a torch and gently tease the canter spring forward a little.

And in bayonet fittings, occasionally one of the spring loaded contact pins fails to extend after being compressed as you remove the old lamp
