Looking for some advice. I have been asked to instal some spotlights in a fish and chip restaurant. I wouldn't normally touch anything commercial as I am a humble Domestic Installer but I have done some work for the customer before and she asked me to do this. What she wants is a rail with some spot lights above the frying area and a couple of other wall mounted spots in the food prep area at the back.
The existing installation runs of a huge consumer unit with about 50 mcbs, some of which are marked 3 phase. All the light switches in the place are in the cupboard next to the consumer unit. It all looks a bit scary so what I was thinking was that i would just run a new separate circuit for the spots. There are a few spare ways on the CU. The customer says she wants the new lights switched next to the work areas and not from the cupboard.
Seems straightforward enough but I'm not sure about the light switches in the food prep areas. Firstly, are they allowed, or do they have to be switched from somewhere else, such as the cupboard where all the other lightswitches are? I'm thinking more here about food hygiene regs. And if they are allowed do they have to be splash proof or similar?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
