Hi guys I'm looking for some decent low energy downlight lamps, preferably without a slow warm up time if possible.

Has anybody got any good recommendations or at least what to avoid!!

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve

I have fitted Megaman GU10 11W CFL's in my kitchen and dinning room and quite happy with them cool white is quite sharp and warm is well warm:p, They are not the quickest to spark up and even though they say dimmable their NOT!? I have fitted 3W led gu10's in customers houses but I think the spread of light is still to narrow, Ok if you fit loads of them but still not cheap yet.

Hope some of that's a help

Cheers

Duncan

mega man are good but the warm up time is around 30 seconds, I have been using a brand called bell, loads cheaper and warm up time is only around 10-15 seconds. if you require instant light I used the Philips master 7w led on a recent hotel refurb, quite expensive tho around £30 per lamp (alright for a hotel lobby on 24 hours a day)

I would personally not go with CFL's ( can't give them away , wot's that sayingg) I would suggest LED's
Long life ( up to 35,000 hrs) low running costs 3/4/5 w it's a no brainer

what brand led do you use and price, I have found in the past that the lower watt leds are to dim, the Philips one is spot on but to expensive for domestic use, I find the 11w bell alright but after a year or so i could imagine the output will far worse than when first installed.
thanks.

Depends on lamp type , there are a lot of LED's on the market so good some bad Phillips or Osram ,
colour temps from 2300k to 4000k so good colour rendering, both phillips and Osram offer dimmable units with stanard dimmers ( control is the only stumbling block at the moment can be controlled via DMX but not viable for domestic instal although C-Bus and rako do 0-10v / Dmx interface

Thanks for all the input guys

Given me some ideas, just need to tell the customer how much decent lamps are now!!

The best low energy downlights available are Evo LEDs which come as a complete LED downlight with driver. Although they are quite expensive at around £40.00 each they achieve a brighter light than a 50W halogen and only use 7.9W. Only problem is the price and they are not dimmable.

Another idea is a Kosnic 4W power LED GU10 lamp, these are about £12.50 and as bright as a 35W halogen. Great value for money but also none dimmable.
