Hello all,

Mains incoming water pipe has been altered, there is about 12-15 inches of coppper pipe entering from the ground into the kitchen then around 3 - 4 mtrs plastic pipe before going back to copper piping, do I still need to bond the pipe and also a link between the plastitc to make continuity?

Thanks Aaronstuart..

Hi,

Regulation 544.1.2 states that any bond shall be made as near as practicable to the point of entry of that service into the premises. It then talks about if there is an isulating section to place the bond after that, and before any branch pipework. In my opinion i would do as you said, bond at the point of entry and branch it across the plastic to the continuing metal service. This would cover any eventualities in the future, of say, the plastic pipe section being changed backed to metal again. Also, if you didnt apply bonding, can you be sure there will be no other potential introduced into the building, from say, water pipes connected to the same system running under ground to an outside boiler house etc? I came across the same situation while doing a PIR, and quoted the above as observations on page 2 of the cert. Its better to make an observation rather than someone ask why didnt you make that observation! hope this helps. :)

ps. wow my first bit post!
