Discuss Multi way switching using only 1 way switches? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

The hall lighting control is using an impulse relay in the loft controlled by the four one way/single pole push for on switches. Every time the push is pressed it creates an impulse ie off -on-off which an impulse relay in the loft uses t0 'toggle' between on and off or off and on. The impulse relay then controls the two hall lamps.

Call Einstein in to fix it.

Fixed that for you........

Hi Taylortwocities
I don't understand the relevance of the 'make' and 'break' markings?
Are you suggesting that the impulse relay explanation isn't correct and that there is some other central logic box responding to the inputs from the switches?
Thanks

As with every DIY enthusiast the worst thing you can do is remove them all, you'll then definetly need someone to come and work out what all the cables do.

They are called retractive switches, and control an impulse relay, which is typically a 1 module wide device which clips onto a DIN rail, so have a look in the consumer unit for it.
Fitted this set up several times over the years, and don't understand why it isn't more widely used.
