hi guys (and gals),

just signed up on this site. wondering if anybody can give me some info about this. what you see in the picture is a copy of the inside of a rotary switch. stamped inside is "A.C. ONLY" , "5Amp 250 V" "Made in England"
. The original outside of the box's is a red anodized aluminum. Any ideas? Any suggestions where I can find the real piece, or who made it and where it was used? I believe it was out of the 80's. Outside dimensions is a little less 2 by 2 inches.

I aggree with Wayne......... change it, if like you say its from the 80s it could be 28 years old!!!!

Lets just say, for a moment, that they are no longer made, AND no one has one in stock anywhere. You would HAVE to fit a new one of some description !

true, but i'm not at this point yet. first and foremost i need to identify it first, then search for avaialbility. the search for the availability is entirely my problem, but trying to get input who made those, etc. is hopefully what this forum and their members can help me with....

Can you get a picture of the front of the switch. Realistically there is more chance of identifying it. What is it the switch off, this might also give a clue as to where and who made it

that's the problem, i don't have a front cover, and i don't know where it was used. that's what i'm actually trying to find out first. i need it for a side project. and i'm hoping that maybe one of you (or more) had one in his or her hands and steer me in the right direction.

sorry if this sonds dense but the item you took the pic of...can you not take more pics??

sorry quite confused...and the second pic is rubbish lol

sorry just reread...its a copy of the inside? why? i dunno? my head hurts

i can take more pics but would be only from the inside of the box. yes i agree the second pic is rubbish. but those are the best i can come up with. doesn't the printed info inside give some help? or is it to "general"?

its too general TBH....:) sorry!

please can we have some more info? im sorry but it will keep me awake :D

lol. so far i have been working with the same lousy info and pics trying to locate this. so i decided to get "help". i know it's not easy, ...

Well it seems strange, it would help knowing what the actual switch controls..then we may be able to help. I can't understand why the question has not been asked? is it another wind up?

Sorry to say it, but it looks like you're down to just one option to find this switch. Lacking more pictures, here's my suggestion:

got a mail from santon saying it's not there product, they suggested a company in spain called "gave", but i wonder if that would make sense, cause it says made in england in the box. regardless i can't seem to locate this spanish company on the net, and dewhurst and partners doesn't come up on my searches either.

...and yes, thanks to everybody for being so helpful!!!

hmm, just saw some cam switches on ebay.uk from santon. i wonder if this is only the part that gets mounted on the panel, in the pic it has a black surrounding, maybe there are ones in red aluminum. the size seems right..

Unfortunately for you that style and colour has now become the industry "norm". It may be that the switch you are looking to replace was a "special" run done for the lathe manufacturers. Try Europa they might be able to help or point you in the right direction.
